I noticed something weird in the SMB series, the first game's plot is to rescue a princess, and its sequel is something different. Ex...

Super Mario Bros., rescue a princess
Super Mario Bros. 2, rescue kidnapped kids in a strange fantasy land

Super Mario Land, rescue a princess
Super Mario Land 2, rescue your castle

Super Mario World, rescue a princess
Super Mario World 2(Yoshi's Island), rescue Luigi

I don't know if this is well known, or someone has posted a similar thread, I just thought I'd share it with you.
