Me being the nerdy science link on this website have been researching about the Hydrogen Fusion Reactor they have been building in Calli (USA) it basicly points two lasers (which are the size of 3 football feilds... EACH) into a container of Hydrogen Fuel... they are alittle behind schedual but they hope to acheive ignition (getting out more energy than putting in) by 2010. questions, thoughts discuss here...

Sounds pretty amazing! I'm not holding my breath for success though, it would be amazing if it worked, but it still sounds like it defies the laws of physics too me (perpetual motion?).

yes it is the lab itself occupies the size of 4 football fields and is 50 metres underground, now the chamber is small because there is only gonna be a couple of atoms of hydrogen in the chamber but hopefully by the end of the experiments it will produce enough energy to keep a city lighted up for months at a time!

Wow...sounds a bit like(in terms of size and cost) the project they did a few months ago where they sent two atoms flying into each other to fuse them together. It was dangerous because it could've destroyed the world as we know it(I think they said it could create a black hole, although I'm not sure).

no it wouldn't of this is a perfect thing that the media blew out of proportion, there was a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000​0000000000000001% chance of the world ending and it ripping open a black hole but cuease of the miniscule chance of it the scientist had to mention it but it really wasn't worth mentioning it the media just blew it out of proportion. This, however, is safe because there is only small amount of fuel and it cant over load or anything like that and the fusion will stopp when t he fuel runs out so it no problems Smile but yes extremly expensive
