When it comes to video games, Super Mario is by far one of the most popular in the entire world (if not the most popular). For more than three decades, guys from Nintendo have been working hard to always come up with new features and to make their emblematic platform video game more appealing to their audience. This year, they decided to release a new game of the Super Mario series and this one promises to be the best of the entire series. They named it Super Mario Odyssey and it was released on the 27th of October 2017.

The Super Mario Bros and Casinos is one of those combinations you rarely expect to see. It’s just hard to imagine Nintendo icons actively pursuing their passion for casino games by going to a Vegas casino to play slots or searching online for Live Roulette games. Yet, the Mario Bros. have still ended up playing classic casino games throughout the years to earn coins in some of the weirdest ways possible.

Bonus challenges are the cherry on the top of a lot of hard-earned levels of Super Mario. Introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (and its remake) and Yoshi’s Island for Nintendo DS, bonus challenges give players an added boost if they have earned enough points (700/800 depending on the game). Sometimes a breather for difficult levels, sometimes a way to release tension.

If anyone was in any doubt about the Mario’s status as a video gaming icon, you only need to look at the recent sales figures from Nintendo. According to the company’s finance department, Super Mario Odyssey sold more than two million copies in the three days following its October 27, 2017 release. Fast-forward a week or so and the global sales figure had topped 7.6 million. By way of comparison, Nintendo’s other 2017 hit, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, sold 2.7 million copies in two months.

Just a few short weeks ahead of its debut on the Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Odyssey has released a Live Action Trailer, in the style of a top Broadway musical, complete with an ensemble for the song and dance.

This game marks a return to the 3D, open-world gaming experience for this franchise that helped it enjoy popularity with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine on GameCube. (more…)

The much-respected Edge magazine has rated Mario Odyssey an almost unheard of ten out of ten. For those who have been living under a rock, Edge is a multi-format magazine about video games, published in the UK, with 13 issues each year. The preview of the game has Super Mario Odyssey being described as, quote unquote, the spiritual successor to Mario 64! (more…)

The large majority of early video games featured a multiplayer split-screen mode, probably due to the fact that the earliest analog games were mostly enjoyed in person with friends and family. While most gaming veterans’ first multiplayer memories will involve swapping a controller back and forth during classic titles such as the original Super Mario Bros, the modern generation’s lasting memories of multiplayer gaming will probably revolve around being called out on Xbox Live by someone halfway across the world. Nevertheless, despite the ever-changing nature of multiplayer games, they remain a staple of the industry due to the simple fact that it’s generally more fun to play with other people. (more…)
